Connecting emotions and environment: The research behind Eco-Emotions

Research

Eco-Emotions Research

The Eco-Emotions Project is based on research, especially findings from the Understanding Eco-Emotions Survey 2024. This survey reveals important insights into how early childhood education practices affect children’s emotional growth and their ability to manage their emotions. It highlights that many learning environments are mainly managed by adults, which can limit children’s role in shaping their own experiences and can reduce their emotional engagement. The survey also highlights that inconsistent access to outdoor play and creative activities, which are crucial for expressing emotions, can make it harder for children to regulate their feelings. In response to these findings, the Eco-Emotions Project is dedicated to creating practical, evidence-based resources and strategies to tackle these issues. By emphasising nature-based and creative approaches, the project aims to improve emotional wellbeing in Early Years and School Age Care settings. This research-based approach ensures that our efforts are both sound in theory and effective in practice, helping adults and supporting children in developing emotional resilience.
